You Have A Difficult Boss? This Is How To Handle Him!

Postby Excelsior » 15 May 2011, 4:32 pm

Tips for dealing with difficult bosses:
Count yourself among those lucky few, if you still have not come face-to-face with a boss-from-hell. Unfortunately, majority of employees can testify to the fact that they have met at least one or two difficult bosses during the course of their careers.

As per a popular saying these days, “employees do not leave their jobs but leave their bosses/managers.”
However, not everyone can afford to leave their jobs. If you cannot quit, then learning how to handle a bad boss is the key to survival. Below are given few tips on how to effectively handle difficult boss at work:

Stay Calm and Collected Always: Difficult bosses are called bad managers for a reason as they can provoke your anger instantaneously. You might want to lash out but never get into a verbal dual with a bad boss.
Maintain your calm even if s/he is humiliating you. If possible perfect a fake smile and whenever your boss starts being rude, plaster that phony smile. Remember, bad bosses are bullies, who prey on their victims’ fears/vulnerabilities. Do not act scared in front of him/her.

Do Your Homework before Every Meeting: Never ever make the mistake of attending any of the office meetings unprepared. Come prepared if you know that you are boss’s favorite punch-bag.

Never Gossip about Your Boss: It’s really tough to avoid the temptation to confide in your colleagues when your boss is doing all that s/he can to make your life hell.
However, never ever make the mistake of confiding in your colleagues. They might be as harassed as you are but it’s also likely that to get into boss’s good books they might tattles on you. This will make your already worse equation with your boss precarious.

Excel At Your Work: :D': Since your boss-from-hell always likes to make you miserable, try to do your work efficiently and on time. Do not give him/her chance to pick up faults with your work. Complete your work either before set time-frame or within it.

Know Your Boss’s Various Moods: Knowing when your boss is in good mood or bad can be helpful to you. You can approach your boss to discuss on difficult issues when s/he is in a good mood.

Try To Be Friendly With Your Boss: Trying to be friendly with someone who makes your office hours difficult is not really a cake-walk. However, if you have no intention to leave your job any time soon, then what other option do you have and there’s nothing wrong in trying to be on good terms with a difficult boss.
Be respectful to your boss at all times, even if you do not feel like it. Boost your boss’s ego by asking for help with difficult issues.

Opt Out: There’s limit to how much humiliation/insult one can handle and if your bad boss’s rude comments are affecting your emotional well-being as well as personal life, consider leaving the job.
Sometimes leaving is the only feasible option as your bad boss might not mend his/her behavior any time soon.

But do not spoil your relationship with your boss by saying all the things you wanted to say just because you are leaving. Remember before saying anything nasty that you will likely need this person’s reference to apply for a new job.
Good luck at your places of work!

@hot, lmao!
Yea, bosses from hell, they live among us. They are just unreasonably unreasonable and difficult. Many of them just transfer their agreesing carried from home after their family life has terrorised them to the office. Its doesnt make sense.
